Hiking or walking is great during the spring, summer and fall.
Cuyuna Country Area Groomed Ski Trails
Larson Lake - All Skill Levels - Near Bay Lake with trails to suit all levels of skiiers and snowshoers. Larson holds snow later into the season than any other groomed course in the area. One half mile south of the State Highway 6 and 210 junction, go east on County Rd 10. Follow 10 for about four miles. Larson Lake parking area is on the east side of the road, look for signs. This is much more than a winter getaway, Larson and the other wildlife areas below offer year-round self guided hiking or skiing (inseason) on natural paths. Larson, in particular offers a very quiet, uncrowded region set among rolling hills among small lakes and wetlands. Don't miss these areas for the fall color spectacular !
Wolf Lake - All Skill Levels - Near Deerwood (look for the Truss Joist plant, not on above map) is a beautiful and little used area you must check out this winter. This is a classic track with a small skating area within the interior of the course. Bring your classic skiis to this gem. Go west on 210 past Deerwood about three miles; south on County Road 102 about one mile. Take a right on Nelson Rd and follow south and west for about five miles. Just about the time you think you're lost, you'll be there!
French Rapids - Expert - Very hilly, very difficult. Suggest skate skiing here; a classic track is also cut into the course. For a work out, nothing beats French Rapids! Turn north at the Brainerd Airport, look for XC signs. If you're in decent shape, go for it! You won't soon forget it! Open year around for hiking, walking, nature watching and outdoor fun.
Brainerd Arboreteum - All Skill Levels - Downtown Brainerd includes skate ski and classic tracks with night skiing. This is one of the finest "town" courses around. The local ski clubs and high school use this for practicing. There is also a great night lighted loop for you night stalkers out there. Look for XC signs off 210 in "west" Brainerd.
