In 1998 Governor Arne Carlson
proclaimed Crosby the:
"Antique Capital of the Lakes Area"
|

|
"The antique stores are taking over our town!" The cry was heard, but the antiquers paid no attention. Mrs. Kellen, Mattie Broden and Alice Johnson had planted the seed. Just a few years earlier, when Kay Johnson decided she had accumulated too many antiques and collectibles, she and here husband purchased two buildings on Main Street.
Kay's goal was to "make Crosby cute". She got busy and recruited many dealers to form a co-op. Within a few years, other buildings opened up, including the two large antique shops which are open all year around. Since then, other shops have also opened their doors.
All of the dealers have become friends and all are enthusiastic about promoting Crosby. We all agree that we have met so many interesting and wonderful people from all over the world who have come to enjoy our town.
Have we helped make Crosby cute? The antiquers feel they have made a large impact and every year it just gets better!
